Winning start to life in the pro ranks for Bronx Gym trio

THERE were impressive wins for three of the five debutants boxers who made their professional debuts at the weekend's tournament at Gold Reef City Casino in Johannesburg.

The eight-bout development tournament was staged by BRD Promotions.

Vusumuzi Nyawuza, Ashton David and Ladumo Lamati gave a good account of themselves, winning their bouts.

Even Dee Jay Kriel and Linda Sifundza, who lost their fights, left an impression.

All the bouts were evenly matched.

Kriel's four-rounder in the flyweight class with Colin Tloubatla was such a close fight that it could have gone either way.

Sifundza had the better of Joshua Studdard for two rounds, also in the flyweights, but he became complacent and a vicious left hook to the jaw in the third round dropped him. He beat the count but Studdard finished him off with a devastating two-punch combination.

Nyawuza beat Davis via a split points decision over four rounds in the featherweight category, while Lamati outboxed Bongani Bhuti in the flyweight division.

The star of the evening was Sibusiso Zingange. The novice of four fights defied all odds when he outboxed Nkosinathi Ntshangase over six rounds.

Zingange was not expected even to go the distance, but it was the former Gauteng junior lightweight champion who almost did not finish the fight.

He had pick himself up from the canvas in the third round, to eventually suffer a points loss. Scores were 60-53, 58- 56 and 57-56, all in favour of Zingange, who is yet to get a rating.

Deon Coetzee laboured unnecessarily against the insipid Khayeni Hlungwane to eventually lose on points.

In other results, David Rajuili beat Paul Magxilani on points over four rounds, while Ayanda Nkosi beat Tsifhiwa Munyai on points over four rounds.
