Lefa urges Birds to finish stronger

MOROKA Swallows players want to put the current season behind them as much as their fans do, said captain Lefa Tsutsulupa yesterday.

The struggling Dube Birds face the University of Pretoria tonight in another away Absa Premiership clash that could go either way given recent results.

"The quality of the opposition doesn't even matter anymore at this late stage. We just want to get points, make the Top 8 and start afresh," said Tsutsulupa, who hopes Swallows can build on their surprise 1-0 win against Platinum Stars last week.

"We've had suspensions, a lot of injuries on top of having a small squad, and players have been moved all over the pitch. I mean we have one guy here who has played five positions, that's just about everywhere on the pitch. That tells the story.

"Beating Platinum Stars gave us a bit of a push we needed. But we again travel to Tuks and in them face a difficult opponent with a knowledgeable coach in Steve Barker.

"We remain confident, though, that we will not miss out on the Top 8 for a second season in a row. The top teams are still going to play each other and take points off each other."

Swallows are 11th on the league standings after 25 matches and AmaTuks, in their second season in the top flight, have also found the going tough in 13th place from the same number of matches.

Fixtures (7.30pm unless stated)

Tonight: Tuks Stadium - AmaTuks v Swallows

Tomorrow: Charles Mopeli Stadium - FS Stars v SuperSport; FNB Stadium - Chiefs v Aces; Loftus - Sundowns v Celtic; Cape Town Stadium - Ajax v Arrows; Milpark - Wits v Platinum Stars; Old Peter Mokaba Stadium - Polokwane City v Maritzburg
