INFLUENTIAL Bidvest Wits captain Sibusiso Vilakazi has a burning desire to impress in Denmark and follow in the footsteps of Sibusiso Zuma.

Vilakazi, 24, has been invited for trials by Danish giants Brondby IF.

On Monday night, Vilakazi played in a friendly for the 10-time Danish league champions' reserve side, who lost 3-1 to Viborg.

Vilakazi will be in Denmark until Friday, featuring in other friendlies and training sessions to enable Brondby technical staff to assess him from close range.

"I can confirm the club has given Sibusiso permission to go to Denmark. He is so excited and is confident of impressing their coaching staff," said Wits director George Mogotsi.

"They admire him a lot. We will hear from them once he is back in the country. We have a good relationship with Brondby.

"One of the youngsters from our academy, Lebohang Phiri, a defensive midfielder, is currently playing for Brondy where he is doing well.

"Lebohang also played in that game on Monday night," said Mogotsi.

The Soweto-based Vilakazi - who could not be reached for comment - joined Wits in 2009, making a total of 106 appearances with 13 goals to his credit.

He is one of the star players who has helped the Clever Boys put up a solid challenge for the league title.

"Following the success of Rhee [Zuma] in Denmark, Sibusiso also wants to make a name for himself in that country," said Mogotsi.

Zuma, who is now a bit-part player at SuperSport United, has been honoured many times for his contribution to the development of soccer in Denmark.
