IT'S official! Zolani ''Last Born" Tete will meet Daiki Kameda for the IBF junior-bantamweight title in April next year.

Tete earned the right to challenge for the title after stopping Juan Carlos Sanchez Jnr in the 10th round of an IBF title elimination bout in Mexico on Saturday night.

It was initially thought that the South African's victory guaranteed him a plum fight against the winner of the unification bout between Kameda and WBA super champion Liborio Solis, which was held three days later.

While Kameda lost the fight via a split points decision in Japan on Tuesday, the Japanese was still allowed to keep his IBF title because of Solis's failure to make the weight on the eve of the showdown.

And as part of the repercussions of his failure to make the weight, Solis was also forced to forfeit the WBA strap.

Tete's promoter Branco Milenkovic said yesterday he was ''extremely happy" that Kameda remained the champion.

The promoter said his happiness stemmed from the fact that Kameda remains beatable even if the fight will be held in his back yard.

''The actual result of the fight between Kameda and Solis showed that it was not impossible for a foreigner to win in Japan," a confident Milenkovic told Sowetan yesterday.

Milenkovic said the surprising turn of events in Japan on Tuesday also denied Tete an opportunity to fight for both the IBF and the WBA titles.

But with the WBA electing to strip Solis of the WBA belt after his failure to beat the scales, that title is now vacant.

''That would have presented Tete with a rare opportunity to fight for two world titles at a go. However, it was a huge upset that Kameda lost the battle for the WBA belt even though it was a split points decision. But we fight him for the IBF title," said Milenkovic.
