RENOWNED Drakensberg Boys Choir has been afforded a once-in-life-time opportunity to be part of the Coca-Cola global anthem.
This will be an integral part of the 2014 Fifa World Cup in Brazil.
The celebrated choir will sing the South African version of the Coca-Cola anthem at a ceremony, attended by dignitaries and celebrities from across the country, when the Fifa World Cup Trophy lands at Lanseria Airport on December 1.
The iconic trophy will return to SA for the first time since South Africa hosted the 2010 Fifa World Cup. The trophy is set to travel to 88 countries in 267 days before reaching its final destination - Brazil.
The choir's music director, Johan van Der Sandt, is quoted saying: "We are grateful for the opportunity, it will give the boys great exposure and also adds variety to their careers."
Choir member Nthato Padi, 14, said: "It will be a special feeling singing the Coca-Cola anthem for South Africa."
Coca-Cola marketing assets manager Malefetsane Mbele said: "We needed to localise the World Cup song and thought the [best] way was to bring it close to the teens and give them a chance."
Football-mad South Africans will have a chance to see and be seen with the Jules Rimet Cup at the Southgate Shopping Centre in Johannesburg on December 2 and 3 from 11am to 7pm.
