SPAIN'S first training session at the FNB Stadium on Wednesday gave a glimpse into the side that will likely play against Bafana Bafana in a friendly international next week.

The Spanish squad arrived in Johannesburg earlier this week, but left for Equatorial Guinea yesterday for a friendly before heading back for what their players see as the main event on their African tour against South Africa on Tuesday.

Coach Vicente del Bosque separated his travelling party into two teams for the training session on Wednesday and speculation in the Spanish media is that his final line-up will include seven players who featured in the starting XI in the 2010 World Cup final.

They are goalkeeper Iker Casillas, defender Sergio Ramos, midfielders Xabi Alonso, Sergio Busquets and Andres Iniesta, and forwards Pedro and David Villa.

The only players not on tour from that World Cup-winning side are Gerard Pique, Carles Puyol, Joan Capdevila and Xavi.

The four players who are likely to replace them on Tuesday are fullbacks Alvaro Arbeloa and Nacho Monreal, centre-back Raul Albiol and striker Fernando Llorente.

Villa admits that the competition among the squad is strong and that is one of the keys to their success.

''In all positions there is competition," Villa said. "During the last few years there have been some really good players who have not won selection.

"There is very big competition, but that is what is needed if we are to achieve something important again [at the World Cup in Brazil next year].

"What we achieved in South Africa was not easy, it took a lot of hard work, but this side has a lot of potential."

Likely Spanish starting line-up: Casillas, Arbeloa, Albiol, Ramos, Monreal, Alonso, Busquets, Iniesta, Pedro, Villa and Llorente.
