De Sa might be walking the plank

NOT HAPPY: Pirates boss Irvin Khoza
NOT HAPPY: Pirates boss Irvin Khoza

THE future of Orlando Pirates coach Roger de Sa is hanging by a thread after chairman Irvin Khoza expressed his disappointment in the team's performance in the 2012-13 season.

"It is disappointing to end the season without winning a single trophy. It is the first time since 2010 that we end the season without silverware," said Khoza.

"We disappointed the spiritual owners of the club [the supporters] who are used to celebrating winning trophies left, right and centre.

"The only consolation now is the African Champions League.

"We should have at least defended the Premiership. April was a bad month for us, where we drew seven games and gave away many points. We had no business losing games against Chippa United and Maritzburg United."

Pirates' management is also said to be unhappy that the technical staff are "on holiday" despite qualifying for the African Champions League group stages.

Pirates reassemble on June 18, a full month before their first Champions League group match against AC Leopards of DR Congo at Orlando Stadium.

De Sa could not be reached for comment as he is reportedly on holiday in Portugal.

Sowetan has learnt that the technical staff have not even decided on pre-season training venues.

Meanwhile, with Khoza declaring that Tlou Segolela is going nowhere, the player's agent is hopeful the concerns raised by the winger will soon be resolved.

Segolela has made it clear that he is not happy being relegated to the bench - or not being selected to play at all.

"Yes, there was a meeting with Khoza, to talk about Tlou's future, where the contract was discussed," said Segolela's business manager, Tim Sukazi.

"The issue here has nothing to do with money.

"During the meeting with the chairman, Tlou opened up about some of the things that make him unhappy.

"For example, in one game he played and scored a goal but was dropped the next match.

"Tlou feels there is somebody who does not want him at the club.

"He has been doing well when he is fielded, scoring goals."
