Mashaba on soccer reality TV show

FORMER Bafana Bafana coach Ephraim "Shakes" Mashaba has been roped in by Nedbank Cup organisers to be part of a soccer reality television show.

Selected amateur players will participate in a boot camp for a match against the 2012-2013 winners of Ke Yona, with TV viewers voting on who to boot off the team.

Some of the lucky survivors might end up playing professional soccer.

Mashaba, who is the Under-23 national coach, is among a group of selectors conducting trials countrywide in search of contestants. The other selectors are former Durban Bush Bucks and Kaizer Chiefs striker Mike Mangena, Safa School of Excellence head coach Khabo Zondo and former Orlando Pirates coach Owen da Gama.

Participants between the ages of 18 and 35 are trying to get into the initial squad of 45 for the boot camp, where they will face elimination by the voting public and coaches. The squad will be trimmed to 23 and later the final 18 that will meet the tournament winners.
