Mokotjo misses out on transfer

BAFANA Bafana youngster Kamohelo Mokotjo is set for more frustration at Feyenoord in the second half of the season after missing out on a deadline day move to fellow Dutch Eredivisie side ADO Den Haag.

Feyenoord were in talks to send Mokotjo to The Hague and the deal looked set to provide the 21-year-old with much-needed game time as he looks to kick-start his career again after 18 months of sitting on the bench.

But when Vitesse Arnhem came in for a late bid for fellow midfielder Kelvin Leerdam, Feyenoord put the breaks on Mokotjo's move.

In the end neither transfer happened and Mokotjo will likely have to watch once more from the bench, at best, hurting his national team chances further.

"When Vitesse inquired about the transfer of Leerdam, we had to tell Mokotjo that talks with ADO Den Haag had to stop," Feyenoord sporting director Martin van Geel told reporters.

"When late in the evening [of January 31] it became clear that Vitesse would not sign Leerdam, it was too late to talk again with ADO."

Mokotjo has been at Feyenoord since 2008, but has made just five league starts in the last two seasons and none this campaign.

He made his Bafana Bafana debut in September though, coming on late in the game in the 2-0 win over Mozambique. But with next to no game time at Feyenoord, he was never a contender for Gordon Igesund's 2013 Africa Cup of Nations squad.
