High praise for Bafana despite loss

SPORTS Minister Fikile Mbalula praised Bafana Bafana for a well-spirited display in the African Cup of Nations clash on Saturday night.

"Our team fought hard," he said.

"For us, South Africa has already won by being among the best of this successful tournament.

"We wish Mali and all the other teams well in their endeavour to lift the Afcon 2013 trophy on February 10."

"We look forward to Bafana Bafana representing us proudly in Brazil, both at the 2014 Confederations and the Fifa World Cup, Mbalula said.

"We thank South Africans who continue to rally behind Bafana Bafana and plead for their continued support towards the remaining teams in the tournament."

Bafana Bafana were knocked out of the continental showpiece after failing to beat Mali in their quarterfinal shootout at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.

Mali proceeded to the semifinals after winning 3-1 on penalties against South Africa.

The two sides played to a 1-1 draw after 120 minutes.

"For two weeks South Africa has displayed excellent performance on and off the field, which inspired many across the length and breadth of our beloved country," Mbalula said.

"We take pride in the support and confidence expressed by President Jacob Zuma to Bafana Bafana prior and during the Afcon tournament."

The finals of the Afcon tournament will be played at the National Stadium in Johannesburg on February 10.

SOWETANLIVE: How do you feel about Bafana's performance? Do you think they played well, or they gave up after the first goal scored by them? #BafanaBafana

Let's dissect Mali's equaliser shall we?

Mali's attack came from the right flank (CowGaxa's position) after the midfield failed to close down the pass (FurCow).. Cowmalo had to retract from his central defence position to go close down a cross from CowGaxa's postion, leaving an unmarked Keita who made a deep run into the 18-yard area.

Summary: Cow #1 (FurCow failed to apply pressure from midfield)
................Cow #2 (CowGaxa was in no man's land hence the cross came from his position)

Solution: Replace Cow #1 with Matlaba (The only fullback currently in SA who has knowledge on how to defend, when to overlap and how to deliver good crosses)

Replace Cow #2 with Jali (The only rock-solid midfielder in SA who can carry the weight of any team on his shoulders, ask Beyonce during the last derby)

Your analysis is spot on Champ, the sooner we accept that, the better for us.

Zuma is a bad omen , He cant be like Mandela, No zuma magic . He like attention , He think everything is about him and his wives ,You cant tell me he was there to inspire -players , Who can be inspired by womaniser. We wont win anything even a rugby world cup as long as he is a president

@ Tango

I agree 100%.. Mphela has the killer instinct when it comes to big games at international level.. Shabba would've given us more fire-power than Phala!!

@smangasekati
@ancndutsu an apt name for your nduntsu comments!!!

now back to my comment, Zuma said they were going to be in the semis, he lied like he always does, and to believe him that they would, given performance statistics, leads me to concl that your IQ level is equal to the temperature of a dog poo left in your garden. now shut up and watch professional footballers progress the match which we were allowed to participate in as courtesy of us being hosts
///////////////////
So Ivory coast does not have professional footballers?

ps: Umuncu clever !! What does IQ stand for. U've exposed yourself. U clever imbecile!!
-----------------------------------
Read SMUNCU and comprehend!!! that way I don't have to repeat myself as a direct result of your being a scatterbrain!! I have utmost respect for Ivorian boys they did their best but lost to a better team and one of the few matches that actually showed us world class football!!!
////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
U just farting all over. Smenqe!! Answer my question.Is the Ivory coast team not full of prof players?

ps: Your Ivory coast also lost in da 1/4 finals just like NKC. Yet u don't respect NKC.

Truth need to be told as it is.....At the Moment South Africa is the Anchor for Africa and that needs to be shown and seen in all spheres. There is absolutely no excuse for us to praise mediocre performance! Our teams deserve and must work for a win! Everywhere where we are as South Africans we need to SHINE!!!! no more excuse or Story Story!
