BAFANA Bafana midfielder Dean Furman will go head-to-head with former national team skipper Steven Pienaar when Oldham Athletic welcome Everton in the fifth round of the FA Cup next month.

Furman, who is captain of The Latics, was helping Bafana into the quarterfinals of the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations while his teammates were busy defeating Liverpool 3-2 in the fourth round of the FA Cup on Sunday.

It is a massive result for the club, who have been battling relegation in the third tier of the English league this season, but did enough to see off The Reds.

Their reward is another high-profile home fixture against Everton, in which Furman will mostly likely play on the weekend of February 16, one week after the Afcon final.

"Wow! Could today be any better? Quarterfinals of the Afcon and the OAFC boys beat Liverpool! Incredible. Well done everyone involved!" an elated Furman tweeted.

There was more FA Cup success for another South African as striker Davide Somma played the final few minutes of Leeds United's 2-1 win over Tottenham.

Somma was an injury-time substitute as manager Neil Warnock ran down the clock, and the reward for him and his teammates is a meeting with English Champions Manchester City in the next round.

It is a great stage for Somma to impress and prove that he is well and truly over the injury troubles that kept him out of football for 18 months.

Meanwhile in Portugal, South African-born Sergio Marakis started his fourth straight game for Maritimo as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Rio Ave. The 21-year-old midfielder looks like he will get a run in the second half of the season, another exciting talent for national team coach Gordon Igesund to keep an eye on.

SA-born New Zealand citizen Storm Roux made his professional debut for Australian A-League side Perth Glory in a 1-0 loss to Brisbane Roar.
