Furman's mad dash to Bafana

Dean Furman has arrived in camp with Bafana Bafana after a mad dash to London's Heathrow International Airport on Saturday night.

Furman played for his English League One side, Oldham Athletic, who defeated Champions Nottingham Forest 3-2 away, in the third round of the FA Cup at the weekend.

He barely had time to celebrate with his team mates, though, as he went straight into a car and was whisked down the freeway as he made a 170km dash to catch a 9pm SAA flight to Johannesburg.

From there he flew down to Cape Town to join the rest of the Bafana squad in camp - the last player to do so - and will take part in his first training session today.

"Made it to the airport on time! Martin (his driver) my saviour produced big time! Looking forward to meeting up with the squad tomorrow (Sunday)!" Furman tweeted.

Furman was born in Cape Town, so he is returning to the city of his birth, but is unlikely to feature in tomorrow night's friendly with Norway, having had only one day of training with the squad.

He is likely to have to wait until Saturday's meeting with Algeria in Johannesburg to get a pre-2013 Africa Cup of Nations run.

Meanwhile, Bafana coach Gordon Igesund is sweating over attacking midfielder May Mahlangu's fitness.

The Helsingborg star picked up a knock in training on Friday.

Though he has been told he can train today, the medical team say he will be monitored closely for any further reaction to the knock.

Should the problem be deemed serious enough to keep him out of the Afcon finals, it could open the door for an entry into the squad for Orlando Pirates' star Sifiso Myeni.

Myeni was a surprise omission from Igesund's 23-member squad for the continental tournament.

Otherwise, Igesund has no other injury problems and at this stage has a full complement of players to choose from for the Norway fixture.
