Norway to bring untested squad to SA

NORWAY will bring just three foreign-based players for their international against South Africa next month, unable to call up any high- profile stars for the game in Cape Town.

Veteran coach Egil Olsen named a 29-man squad, including two players based in Denmark, one in Sweden and the rest all with Norwegian clubs, who do not start the new season until March.

The match on January 8 at the Cape Town Stadium does not fall on a Fifa date and therefore Norway cannot use any of their sizeable contingent of players at English and German clubs, like John Arne Riise and Brede Hangeland at Fulham, and striker Mohamed Abdellaoue of Hannover.

Norway's African tour, which also includes a match in Zambia on January 12, is therefore an opportunity for Olsen to run an eye over home talent before they resume their World Cup qualification campaign in March.

Norway next host Albania in Group E, where they lie three points behind leaders Switzerland.

The match in Cape Town is a Nations Cup warm-up for Bafana.

Norway's squad:

GOALKEEPERS - André Hansen (Odd Grenland), Rune Almenning Jarstein (Viking Stavanger)

DEFENDERS - Fredrik Semb Berge (Odd Grenland), Vegard Forren (Molde), Ruben Kristiansen (Tromsø), Tore Reginiussen (Rosenborg), Espen Ruud (Odense, Denmark), Lars Christopher Vilsvik (Strømsgodet)

MIDFIELDERS -Yann-Erik de Lanlay (Viking Stavanger), Magnus Wolff Eikrem (Molde), Mohammed Fellah (Vålerenga), Ardian Gashi (Helsingborg, Sweden), Ruben Yttergård Jenssen (Tromsø), Stefan Johansen, Anders Konradsen (both Strømsgodset)

FORWARDS - Jo Inge Berget (Molde), Tarik Elyounoussi (Rosenborg), Erik Huseklepp (Brann Bergen), Marcus Pedersen (Odense, Denmark), Alexander Toft Søderlund (Haugesund).
