KEITH "Baby Beast" Nkosi produced a huge upset when the novice of only nine fights stopped seasoned campaigner Warren "Warrior" Joubert in the first round to win the African Boxing Union lightweight title.

You could hear a pin drop as the diners at Emperors Palace digested the shock result. Nkosi, 22, from KwaZulu-Natal, whose skills are polished in Joburg by veteran trainer Harold Volbrecht, was a 100-1 dark horse going into the clash. Even this writer did not give him a chance against the veteran Joubert, who has fought 125 rounds since turning professional on September 4 2009.

All that counted for zero. Nkosi jumped on Joubert and caught his opponent with a swift two-punch combination that dropped him. The veteran got to his feet but Nkosi floored him again.

When he got up, Joubert appeared to have hurt his ankle, but he soldiered on only to face another flurry that forced referee Tony Nyangiwe to intervene.

Nkosi's stable-mate Johnny Muller made a resounding comeback, stopping Lee Dyer in the fourth round of their light-heavyweight bout.

In a repeat of their July 9 bout, Koos Sibiya defeated Grant Fourie over six rounds in the lightweight division, while Jason Bedeman stopped Nkosinathi Tshinavhe in round one of a junior welterweight bout.

But the most disappointing bout of the night was the much-publicised junior lightweight eight- rounder between Malcolm Klassen and Bongani Mahlangu, which the latter turned into a wrestling match. Klassen won the scrap on points.
