Pattison in line for return against Bucs

BACK : Matthew Pattison
BACK : Matthew Pattison

MIDFIELDER Matthew Pattison has recovered quicker than expected and is back in training at Wits.

But officials say he is unlikely to be fielded against Ajax Cape Town tomorrow night, with the weekend clash against champions Orlando Pirates in mind.

But the likes of former internationals Aaron Mokoena and Mbulelo Mabizela could be back in the line-up after their recovery from a spate of ailments.

Also back in training is goalkeeper Emile Baron, who was the club's first choice at the start of the season but has had a list of complaints over the past month. Wits have since entrusted their faith in 17-year-old Steven Hoffman.

Pattison suffered a hamstring tear playing for his new club against Free State Stars in the Telkom Knockout quarterfinal at the start of the month. He was forced off at half-time after hurting himself in a lunging tackle.

It was expected he would be out for the rest of the month but he has missed just two matches - the 2-0 home win over Moroka Swallows and a setback last weekend at Platinum Stars.

Wits could move up into the top five if they triumph over an Ajax side who have Bradley Grobler on the doubtful list and Koen van de Laak a definite non-starter for the trip to Gauteng.

Midweek fixtures, with all matches starting at 7.30pm:

TOMORROW

Soccer City: Kaizer Chiefs vs Moroka Swallows, Milpark: Wits vs Ajax, Harry Gwala: Maritzburg Utd vs SuperSport Utd, Athlone: Chippa United vs Platinum Stars

WEDNESDAY

Peter Mokaba: Black Leopards vs Pirates, King Zwelithini: Golden Arrows vs Bloem Celtic, Charles Mopeli: Free State Stars vs University of Pretoria, and Loftus: Mamelodi Sundowns vs AmaZulu.
