Patosi scores wonder goal for Belgium's Lokeren

AYANDA Patosi is being hailed as the new star of the Belgian domestic game after scoring what has been described as a "wonder goal" for Lokeren on Friday night.

Patosi volleyed from 20 yards to complete a magnificent Lokeren move in their 2-1 victory over Standard Liege, and the effort is already being talked about as the Goal of the Season in the Jupiler League.

It was the fourth successive match in which Patosi has scored, and his sixth of the season in all, and in a single moment has catapulted him from promising youngster to the most talked-about player in Belgium.

"What did I think as I saw the ball coming from (Moroccan international) Hamdi Harbaoui? I am now more confident and said to myself, 'go for it'," Patosi said.

"But my goals are not as important as the team performance. I can only perform if the team performs."

Meanwhile, Darren Keet kept a clean sheet for Kortrijk as they played to a goalless draw at OH Leuven, good preparation for his call-up against Zambia this week.

Kagisho Dikgacoi scored his fifth goal of the season as Crystal Palace kept their place at the top of the Championship table with a 2-1 win at Kgosi Ntlhe's Peterborough United. It looked as though the game was heading for a Peterborough win before two goals in as many minutes swung it for Palace, Dikgacoi getting the second.

In the Premiership, Steven Pienaar played well for Everton as they came from behind to beat Sunderland 2-1.

Meanwhile, coach Gordon Igesund was quick to dismiss Andrew Surman as a future national team player after his UK trip last week, but appeared to leave the door open for a Pienaar return.

Bafana midfielder Dean Furman was restored to the starting line-up for Oldham Athletic, but they lost 1-0 at home to Tranmere Rovers.

Former Mamelodi Sundowns defender Siyanda Xulu was back on the bench for Russia's FC Rostov as they won 3-0 at home to Amkar Perm. Xulu missed the last month, but is now fit again.
