IT'S only the one-third stage of the season, but SuperSport United coach Gavin Hunt believes Kaizer Chiefs have what it takes to win this season's Premiership.
Speaking after Amakhosi's impressive 2-1 victory over SuperSport in Polokwane on Saturday night, Hunt said Chiefs have the look of champions about them.
"They should win the league now - nobody will catch them," Hunt said. "I don't think any of the teams below them are showing any type of form."
Chiefs were under pressure against SuperSport, with second-placed Orlando Pirates having beaten Free State Stars in an earlier game. But Amakhosi pulled out all the stops to break down a well-organised Matsatsantsa and preserve their four-point lead.
Chiefs coach Stuart Baxter echoed Hunt's words and said: "We're top of the log, and we've got to live with that. It's always easier to be the hunter than the hunted.
"We've got to keep telling people that we're not going to buckle. And if they want to take over top of the log then they're going to have to play for it," Baxter said.
"It was a tough, gutsy second half, in terms of the storm in the first half, in terms of the opponent being good, in terms of my players knowing the results before the game. SuperSport are the best team we've played," he added.
A brace from striker Lehlohonolo Majoro provided the spearhead of an impressive team effort from Chiefs. Their creativity on the ball has been their hallmark under former Bafana coach Baxter.
It was Amakhosi's second win in a row after they beat Golden Arrows 3-0. Chiefs are now the only unbeaten team remaining in the PSL, having ended SuperSport's run on Saturday night.
"Baxter has been able to get goals from all his strikers so far this season. We also work very hard with the strikers," Hunt said.
SuperSport came into the game with eight draws from their first nine games. Hunt said media hype has affected some of his players.
"It's a problem and I've got to handle it. The gap is too big now (to win the league). We've just got to soldier on," Hunt said.
