Palmer steps in at Lidoda
BLACK Leopards are today expected to off-load coach Sunday Chidzambwa for Ian Palmer as the far-reaching consequences of the Zimbabwe Asiagate scandal are felt at the Limpopo side.
Along with Thomas Sweswe of Bidvest Wits, Mamelodi Sundowns' Method Mwanjali, among others, Chidzambwa has already been banned for life for their alleged involvement in the match-fixing scandal that has hit Zimbabwean football.
He is expected to be relieved of his duties at Lidoda Duvha as he now finds himself in an untenable position following the harsh punishment imposed on him by the Zimbabwe FA.
Sowetan has it on good authority that Palmer, the former Maritzburg United coach, has already agreed on terms with Leopards to take over the reins until the end of the season.
Palmer could not be reached for comment yesterday. A press conference arranged for an official announcement was cancelled yesterday due to logistical challenges.
Leopards marketing manager Tendani Thidiela said: "All I can say is that we are having a press conference tomorrow (today)."
Chidzambwa helped the Limpopo team gain promotion to the Premiership two seasons ago.
After a run of poor results early last season, Chidzambwa was replaced by Vladislav Heric, but was later reinstated. The Zimbabwean mentor led Leopards through a remarkable CAF Confederations Cup run last season and has had a fairly good start to the current season. l See Page 26
