Hunt still wants Benjani

Oct 26, 2012 | Mark Gleeson | 16 comments

SUPERSPORT United have not signed former Zimbabwe captain Benjani Mwaruwari - as some newspapers have reported - but coach Gavin Hunt said he is desperate to get the former Manchester City striker on board.

He's a top player. On one leg, blindfolded he could play in this league. In training he is fantastic. His touch is brilliant. What more can I say?

Mwaruwari has been training at United, but there is an impasse over the proposed salary being offered the 34-year- old former Jomo Cosmos player and so no deal has been done.

"He's a top player. On one leg, blindfolded he could play in this league. In training he is fantastic. His touch is brilliant. What more can I say? I'd love to have him but he was earning £60000 (about R840000) a week playing in the English Premier League. We can't pay that."

A frustrated Hunt added: "I'd like to sign him. He's still training with us, but I don't know if it is possible."

Mwaruwari, born in Bulawayo but of Malawian descent, last played competitively at Portsmouth in the English Championship and has announced his retirement from international football.

Benjani understands the salary variances between Europe and Africa having played for of all people Jomo Sono, we all know he's not the highest paying of coaches... offer him 300 000 a month and he'll take it

what else can he do? he is of age and not team will risk signing him over young talent

@onejay, as long as his legs stil carries him, he is same age with Noverthe (top goal scorer), Bennie, Zuma and most of them are 1 or two years younger than him in PSl,

You just need to use a creative midfielder like Jabu/Mulenga a bit more to dish out defensive splitting passes then all will be well.

when ever Hunts open his mouth fart comes out, if Benjani is that good then he must pay him or shut the fuq up. Pirates thought the same when they signed Boa Marte and we all know how that ended up.

He is disrespecting the rest of the SA players with his stupid comments.
