Bucs vs Stars in friendlies

REIGNING Absa Premiership champions Orlando Pirates will play Platinum Stars in two friendlies in Johannesburg today to keep their players in shape.

Both clubs agreed to play two matches using different players as there are no Premier Soccer League matches because of the Fifa international week.

Pirates coach Roger de Sa has made it clear he will also use the Fifa week to try various other combinations he hopes will help them win their third successive league title.

"There are a number of players that I have not had enough time to work with; this is an opportunity to do that.

"We are planning to play two friendlies to keep the guys who are not part of their respective national teams in good shape," said De Sa.

Pirates players who will be assessed by De Sa and his lieutenants Tebogo Moloi and Eric Tinkler include Lehlohonolo Masalesa, Happy Jele, Ayanda Gcaba, Mpho Makola and Khetho Masuku.

Bucs got their league challenge back on track with a 3-1 win over University of Pretoria at Loftus last weekend.

That win ended AmaTuks' unbeaten run in the Absa Premiership. On the other hand, Dikwena defeated struggling Mamelodi Sundowns 1-0.

Pirates captain Lucky Lekgwathi, who has been with Pirates for a solid 10 years, said it was important for them to play well in order to win a third successive treble in the PSL.

"There is no turning back after the win over AmaTuks; we need to show an element of consistency by winning our matches.

"The Fifa break will give us the opportunity to continue perfecting our finishing," said Lekgwathi.

Rodger won 2 league games unconvincingly after he took over, then I saw banners written, "No more tears, Rodger is where". Then I saw tears at the end of the game. Now, thinking about defending the league with Rodger in charge, is suicidal. De Sa is a relegation material. Just ask Wits & Santos. I don't see him lasting long.
