McCarthy is back in training
STRIKER Benni McCarthy is back in training with Orlando Pirates after a hamstring injury. However, it will be three more weeks before he plays again.
"Benni started jogging on Friday and we are all delighted to have him back," said Pirates' joint assistant coach Tebogo Moloi yesterday.
The Bafana Bafana top goalscorer with 31 goals sustained the injury while in Brazil with the senior national team last month.
"He has his own special programme that he is following as part of the process to help him get back into action without any problem," said Moloi.
"We spoke to Benni and he is feeling good. The good thing about him is that he has been working hard at the gym to maintain the fitness.
"He does not look like somebody who has been out of action because of injury ... in fact, Benni has lost 2kg."
The assistant coach is confident Bucs will get their Premiership challenge back on track by handing University of Pretoria their first league defeat at Loftus on Sunday.
Pirates lost 1-0 to Bloemfontein Celtic last Sunday.
"We have recovered from the defeat and are looking forward to offering AmaTuks a soccer lesson to officially welcome them to the PSL."
