Parker clinches win for Kaizer Chiefs
Amakhosi secured a 3-1 victory against the Clever Boys, with two goals from Bernard Parker
BERNARD Parker, if he avoids injuries throughout the season, will carry Kaizer Chiefs' scoring responsibilities without any hassles.
The Amakhosi forward again proved too much for the opposition, this time Bidvest Wits, scoring two goals to hand Chiefs a 3-1 victory against the Clever Boys at Mbombela Stadium in Mpumalanga last night.
Calvin "Dolezar" Kadi eventually beat Itumeleng Khune between the sticks to pull one back for Wits in the 81st minute, but shortly after that substitute Lehlohonolo "Wagga Wagga" Majoro put the game to bed with another goal for Chiefs.
Parker - one of the most successful Transnet Football School of Excellence graduates - hasn't stopped scoring since the Absa Premiership kicked off in August and took his tally to seven goals in five matches - three more than he netted last season.
Amakhosi also kept their position at the top of the PSL table, picking up an impressive 13 points in five games. The Glamour Boys continued their unbeaten run in the PSL, with a record of four wins and just one draw.
Chiefs, coached by Stuart Baxter, didn't start the season as brightly as their fans expected, suffering a humiliating 4-1 defeat to Mamelodi Sundowns in the MTN8 quarterfinals in August.
Baxter labelled that hammering as an eye-opener, and his side's display since then suggests the coach knew what he was talking about.
Last night, Amakhosi were clinical in front of goals and showed the same consistency as when they beat Black Leopards 2-1 at Soccer City last week to move back to the top of the league standings.
The experienced Clever Boys' defence - made up of three former Bafana players - struggled to keep Parker and his striker partner, Kingston Nkatha, at bay.
Captain Old John Mabizela, Aaron Mokoena and Bryce Moon, who have 168 Bafana appearances between them, failed to communicate at the back, resulting in Parker's two goals.
Wits also had ex-Chiefs hard man Tinashe Nengomasha in their midfield, but he could not inspire the Clever Boys to victory. His fellow Zimbabwean on the opposition side, Willard Katsande, kept him mum.
This defeat for Wits means coach Antonio Lopez Habas has managed just one win from five league encounters since taking over at the club at the start of the campaign. They are 10 on the log.
With every game they play, Habas's newly assembled team shows quite a lot of work has to be done before they can be title contenders.
Amakhosi skipper and goalkeeper Khune did deny Kadi early on for Wits from close range in the second half as the hosts showed intent in salvaging something from the game.
But their best chance of the match fell to Matthew Pattison on the hour mark when he blasted his shot from inside the box well over Khune's posts after substitute Asive Langwe's hard work on the flank.
Tonight's games:
Tuks Stadium: AmaTuks vs Platinum Stars
Orlando Stadium: Orlando Pirates vs Ajax Cape Town
Peter Mokaba: Black Leopards vs Maritzburg Utd (All games at 7.30pm)
MAKING MOVES: Willard Katsande and Matthew Pattison during the

Congradulations to Makhosi, it was great game indeed. Parker is on fire, I wish him well, he must not be injured for the whole season, so that he can win the Lesley Manyathela top goal scorer, at the rate he is going on, we will be proud of him come end of the season.Report Abuse

Hello AllWell done to Amakhosi. You really are playing well, and you have a massive goal difference. Not taking anything away from your performance, the league is a marathon. Hopefully, your team has not peaked too soon. It is always better to finish strong than to start strong. Anyway, well done. The team played well.
