Is storm over for Pirates?

Sep 25, 2012 | Mogomotsi Selebi | 58 comments

ORLANDO Pirates are looking to register their second straight SA Premiership win when they host Ajax Cape Town at Orlando Stadium tonight at 7.30pm

TEST: Bucs goalkeeper Moeneeb Josephs

After a turbulent few weeks when former coach Augusto Palacios was relieved of his duties, the Buccaneers have roped in former Wits coach Roger de Sa to steer their ship through rough seas.

Pirates' technical team is now comprised of former Bafana Bafana internationals De Sa and assistant coaches Tebogo Moloi and Eric Tinkler.

While Pirates' last match, a 1-0 away win against Platinum Stars, was far from convincing, De Sa will be more concerned about registering his second consecutive win. Playing attractive football might be the least of his worries as the Buccaneers will be looking to get a grip on their title defence.

Pirates captain Lucky Lekgwathi said they wanted to intensify their challenge for the league title by sending Ajax back to Cape Town empty-handed.

"It's going to be a tough one, we are ready for Ajax. Our message to The Ghost (Pirates supporters) is that we will continue making them happy after the win over Stars. There is no way Ajax will get a single point."

Ajax coach Maarten Stekelenburg expressed belief in his struggling charges. The Urban Warriors are lying 11th on the log with four points from a possible 12.

"I have the feeling that in this squad there is more consistency than last season," Stekelenburg said.
