"I want to win"

Veteran SuperSport United striker Sibusiso Zuma believes he still has plenty to offer the side and says he is ready to work hard in order to achieve league and cup success with the club.

“I’m still playing because I want to win things. That’s why I came to SuperSport,” Zuma said this week, ahead of the MTN8 cup final against Moroka Swallows at Orlando Stadium on Saturday.

“I wake up every day, come to training every day, work hard, train hard and I’m still helping the boys inside the field which is good for me.”

Zuma said his attention would be focussed on achieving the perfect result for his Pretoria club when they take on the Birds.

“Swallows are playing good football at the moment,” he said.

“We are just hoping for the best and to be 100% on the day and bring back the cup.

“So I’m hoping that we are going to be able to score goals and give people a good game.”

Zuma, 37, joined the three-time Premiership champions last year and has enjoyed life at United, establishing himself as one of the most senior members of the squad.

“I’m still scoring goals and I’m just happy that I’m still playing. I’m healthy and have no injuries,” he said.

“It’s hard work but I love the game. I was going to quit a long time ago but just staying at home isn’t enough for me.”

Zuma, who boasts 67 international caps and 13 goals for Bafana Bafana, said United would go all out in search of silverware early in the new season, while remaining responsible in defence, which had helped them to three clean sheets in as many games in the Premiership.

“We have to watch out. They (Swallows) are very good with their counter attacks, so I’m saying its going to be a very good game,” he said.

“Defensively, in the league, I think SuperSport are one of the best.

“I think the boys at the back are going to be able to deal with the pressure and I’m just hoping that we, as strikers, can get goals and win the game at the end of the day.

“Definitely, it’s going to be a cracking game, and I’m hoping for lots of goals.”

United’s hit-man added that the side were motivated and ready for the challenge that lay ahead against the league runners-up in the previous campaign.

“We are almost there. We aren’t there yet, but if we can create goals and put them in the back of the net, it’s good for the team,” he said.

“The confidence is good for the team, we just have to take it to this upcoming game.” - Sapa
