Double joy for Dynamos

DYNAMOS chairman Pat Malabela emerged the big victor from the Safa appeals board hearing in midweek, winning both his cases . with costs.

"Justice has been served," he said triumphantly after the double decision ensured his club's status in the National First Division was confirmed.

Instead, Carara Kicks go down with bottom-placed Atlie FC. Carara were docked points after using a defaulter and go from being a promotion contender just two years ago to now having to play in the Vodacom League.

Originally, Dynamos had finished second-to-last but brought two complaints, which have delayed the restart of the season. They complained that both Bay United and Kicks used defaulters. The PSL found in Dynamos' favour on both counts and docked points from Kicks but fined only United. On Wednesday, Kicks lost their appeal against last month's decision of the PSL disciplinary body.

Dynamos had instituted the other appeal because they were not happy that Bay United had not been docked points but instead were only slapped with a monetary sanction, in a weak sentence by the PSL that was widely condemned.

Safa's appeals board overturned the sentence on Wednesday and docked points from Bay United for matches involving the defaulter. They lost five points but the PSL said yesterday it was not enough to be relegated and confirmed Atlie and Kicks are dropping down.

For Carara Kicks, it is a double blow because they had plans to be sold. Bay and Kicks have seven days to request that the cases go to arbitration.
