Red card mars Serero's class act

Sep 4, 2012 | Nick Said | 8 comments

BAFANA Bafana star Thulani Serero has apologised to his Ajax Amsterdam teammates after his red card on Sunday that brought to an end a memorable performance for the youngster against Heerenveen.

APOLOGETIC: Thulani Serero

Serero became just the fourth South African to score a brace of goals in the Dutch Eredivisie after Glen Salmon, Steven Pienaar and Benni McCarthy, but his afternoon was ruined by a straight red card for a late lunge as the teams drew 2-2.

"I went for the ball, but it was too late," Serero said "It was certainly not my intention to hit him. I feel especially guilty and want to apologise to the team. I felt I had more goals in me today as well."

His second goal in particular was excellent. Collecting a long ball he controlled it well and provided a cool and composed finish.

Serero received a warm hug from Foppe de Haan, his ex-coach at Ajax Cape Town, now back in the development ranks at the Dutch club.

Kamohelo Mokotjo was again on the bench for Feyenoord as they lost 1-0 at Vitesse Arnhem. The new Bafana Bafana squad member is yet to play a single minute of competitive football for the club this season.

Darren Keet came up against compatriot Ayanda Patosi as Kortrijk won 1-0 at Lokeren, with the under-23 goalkeeper coming out on top. Patosi was substituted after 80 minutes.

In Sweden, May Mahlangu's Helsingborg lost 2-1 at AIK Stockholm, while Bradley Ralani's Landskrona saw their promotion hopes evaporate as they lost 2-0 at Ljungskile.

Why cant SS show Dutch Erie Divisie instead of the French League? Bennie used to play there and we never used to see him regularly at the peak of his career and so is Steven and the others. Now the same thing is happening with this gem.

Yet Gordon is talking crap that players should be playing for their teams if they are to be selected for the national team.

CYBORICO

this guy will go on to be the best export of Mzansi soccer someone mark my words, the boy has what it takes to play for big teams, he has the football brains, the talent and he is a hard worker, unlike many of our so called stars who belive once u get signed by the big 4 in SA u have reach the ceiling, he is differnt and understand that the ladder to succes has no limits(i just hope he stays injury free)
the guy is in the moulds of Messie nabo Ronaldinho. I bet you if he stays for another season in amsterdam(given he continues to showcase his talent throug game time) he will move straight from amsterdam to, one of the English/spanish/italian giants. I put my head on the block on this one
