Fans get club kicked out of CAF champions league
Stones, missiles, bottles and firecrackers were thrown during pitch invasions
Tunisia's Etoile Sahel were kicked out of the 2012 CAF Champions League on Monday after two pitch invasions during a home fixture against fellow Tunisians Esperance this month.
A statement from the Cairo-based African football governing body said stones, missiles, bottles and firecrackers were thrown during the invasions, forcing the referee to abandon the game on 69 minutes with Esperance 2-0 ahead.
Esperance and Sunshine Stars of Nigeria have six points each in a revised Group A table after the four Etoile results were dropped and both qualify for the semi-finals with ASO Chlef of Algeria pointless and out of the running.
The disqualification of Etoile will be welcomed by African football observers, who have accused CAF of being soft in the past on clubs with records of crowd trouble.
