Ajax alert Fifa over Grobler 'commission'
AJAX Cape Town have asked for Fifa's intervention to help obtain an international transfer clearance for Bradley Grobler.
The Bafana Bafana striker was unable to make his debut for the Cape side in their opening league game of the season against SuperSport United on Friday night because Ajax had not yet received the final documentation from his Turkish former club.
In order to register the 24-year-old forward with the PSL, Ajax have to obtain an ITC, which is initiated by the selling club.
But despite paying for Grobler, pictured, and lodging all the necessary paperwork, the ITC was not issued. It is usually a routine matter but Ajax say they are being held to ransom by individuals involved in the deal, who are seeking a commission.
"We've paid the transfer fee over. They are stalling on giving the go-ahead for the issuing of the ITC because they want us to pay a backhander. I've told them to get lost," said Ajax chief executive George Comitis, lifting the lid on the murky world of wheeling and dealing in the transfer market. Ajax have taken the matter up with Fifa through Safa. "Once Fifa get involved it is usually sorted quickly but it shouldn't have to come to this," Comitis said.
