Thoba killed in shooting

ONE of the country's best young boxers, Malibongwe Thoba, died on Saturday after he was involved in a shooting in Stellenbosch. He was 23.

The death of the former South African featherweight title contender was confirmed by Mickey Klaas, Boxing SA's representative in the Western Cape.

Thoba was based in Lwandle, Strand at the time of his death.

Klaas said no details of the incident were available.

Loyiso Mtya, the director of operations at BSA, and promoter Mzimasi Mnguni said boxing had lost a good fighter.
