Santos set to bid farewell to Isaacs

MOVING: Erwin Isaacs.
MOVING: Erwin Isaacs.

SPEEDY striker Erwin Isaacs is set to depart from Santos in the next few days, but his destination is still unknown.

Club owner Goolam Allie has confirmed that negotiations for Isaacs are at an advanced stage and that his star asset will join the recent exodus from the relegated Cape Town club.

"We are hoping to have it all settled this week," he said.

Isaacs will join Wayne Arendse and Eleazar Rodgers as the club's high-profile departures after Santos lost out in June's Premier Soccer League promotion-relegation playoffs.

Isaacs has long been a target for Kaizer Chiefs but Amakhosi's football manager Bobby Motaung recently scoffed at reports he was first in the queue for the 25-year-old, who has spent the past nine seasons at Santos.

Instead, it is likely Isaacs will go to either Bidvest Wits or SuperSport United, although Allie was tight-lipped on the subject of which clubs he was negotiating with.

Isaacs has netted more than 60 goals in the PSL and won a single cap for Bafana Bafana.

He has long been rated as one of the league's top strikers and is likely to cost in the range of R3,4m.

Allie has laughed off persistent reports that he sold Rodgers to Mamelodi Sundowns for R7m, which would be a new record for a domestic transfer.

"I've read with much amusement about how much Rodgers cost. I can tell you he did not go cheap, but R7m is not in the ballpark."

Defender Arendse was sold to the Brazilians last month.
