Fire at Durban stadium

Firefighters found the upper level of the stadium in flames

A fire broke out at the Kings Park Stadium in Durban on Thursday, the city’s chief fire officer said.

“Our firefighters responded to the call shortly after 6.30am and from a distance the crew noticed flames emanating from the roof of the stadium,” Mark te Water said.

“On their arrival they found the upper level of the stadium in flames. They worked with hydraulic platforms and successfully contained the fire.”

They gained access through the balcony to put out the fire in two upper level hospitality suites.

Firefighters had brought the blaze under control by 8.30am.

Metro police closed off Jacko Jackson Drive between the old NMR Avenue and Goble road.

“We don’t know what caused the fire at this stage. The firefighters are dousing the hotspots and once the scene is declared safe the investigative crew will be able to access the area to determine the cause,” Te Water said.

No injuries were reported.

The stadium is the home ground of the Sharks rugby team.

Bingo-Ingo

It's the divine intervention to compel them to use Moses Mabhida stadium. Hey, Sharks you must on fire down under this weekend. I want to see you knocking out the Stormers in the semis of the super 15!!!! You castrated the Bulls in the tank that was on fire. the Super 15 is on its way to the very same tank.
