Baxter tells strikers: hit 20-goal mark

KAIZER Chiefs coach Stuart Baxter has thrown down the gauntlet to his strikers, challenging them to hit the 20-goal mark in the new season.

Baxter, who arrived three months ago, has challenged his strikers to end the malaise that's been afflicting Chiefs in recent seasons. "I'd like to know where our goals will come from, I'd like to know which of our strikers will back themselves to score this season," said Baxter yesterday.

"Kingston (Nkatha) hasn't gelled yet, but he is fast finding his feet in a big club. (Lehlohonolo) Majoro doesn't want anybody to take his shirt and S'thembiso Ncgobo will always be fighting for possession to score.

"I'm aware of the goal-scoring problems and I have thrown down the gauntlet to them. Which one of them can get to 20 goals? I hope they respond ... if they don't, we'll have to look for somebody else."

Baxter would not be drawn on whether the club was looking to add attacking players since they have mostly recruited defenders so far.

He will have an opportunity to run the rule over his squad when they line up against Moroka Swallows in their Gauteng Cup semifinal match at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday. The match will be preceded by the first semifinal between SuperSport United and Wits, with the final set for 5pm.

"We've just got to hit the ground running. It certainly won't be anything like a crunch match, which if we don't win, then our season is through. We are preparing for the season, and this tournament is very important. Everything we gather at the moment is information on our opponents, but this cup will provide us with an opportunity to learn more about them."

20 goals only, that is not Chiefs standard, Chiefs yesteryear strikers use to score more than 30 goals, what is the different with these ones.

All of the strikers each should at least score more than 10 goals or fire them, they get paid for playing and why not producing.
