Can Xulu impress Rostov?
MAMELODI Sundowns defender Siyanda Xulu is hoping it will be third-time lucky as he attends trials at Russian Premier League side FC Rostov.
The youngster was unfortunate not to sign for Spanish giants Barcelona in 2010, and also had a trial with English Premiership side Arsenal shortly afterwards.
Rostov present another opportunity for him to further his career abroad, and he will spend a week with the club having left for Russia on Monday night. Xulu will take part in the club's opening match of the 2012-13 Premier League season against CSKA Moscow on Saturday.
"Rostov have already done their research on the player and have viewed matches of him on DVDs, so they know pretty much what to expect from him," Xulu's agent, Paul Mitchell of the Siyavuma Sports Agency, said. "He will be there a week and then we will see what happens.
"He was very unlucky not to move to the Barcelona academy two years ago. They were ready to make him an offer and then there was a change of presidency at the club and it put an end to it.
"He then went to Arsenal and Arsene Wenger liked him and said he would continue to monitor Siyanda."
Sundowns also rejected an offer from Spanish La Liga side Atletico Madrid for the services of Xulu before the start of last season.
