Vlad V takes on Europe
FORMER Kaizer Chiefs coach Vladimir Vermezovic begins his new career at Partizan Belgrade in the Uefa Champions League tonight when his Serbian club take on FC Valletta in Malta.
The second preliminary round first leg match follows several weeks of pre-season preparation for the club where they played seven matches, winning five.
Partizan, who have four Africans in their squad for the coming season, lost at the weekend to Lokomotiv Moscow of Russia in their last warm-up game.
"Ninety percent of Lokomotiv friendly starters will play the first Valletta game although we have dilemma regarding the back four although it's not a big deal," said Vermezovic, sacked by Chiefs seven games short of the end of last season after almost three seasons without league success.
Partizan are runaway favourites in their first step towards trying to qualify for the lucrative group phase of the world's biggest club competition.
Partizan host the second leg in the Serbian capital next Tuesday and if they progress they will go into the draw for the third qualifying round, which is again played over two legs later this month and early in August.
