I think they must stop taking refreshments from these kiosks along the track. At the end of the day they may never know what they drank. Each and every participant must bring their own refreshments carriers to stand in all 4 corners of the track.

Come on guys. Lets not judge. Sometimes, athletes, unwittingly take some grug that they were not aware of. It is sad that he is going to be stripped of his title and banned for 2 years. Fortunately, they were not given prize money yet. But, these things happen. Top sports people should be aware of what they put in their systems.

----------------------
Don't be silly wena, professional athletes can only consume stuff from assistants within their teams not only to avoid spiked drink for health purposes as well, there is a possibility that this guy used stimulants, as it says he has been trying for a long time win the marathon, and also when they test athletes they test for specifically burned substances, all professional participants know about this, maybe there was too much pressure for him to win.

Now there is a hearing.
I would imagine that he has checked over every single thing that he had used within the past 24 to 48 hours. He will have access to an expert in the lab who will go through the ingredients with him so they can try to determine how the stuff got into his system. The lab expert will also help him with which ingredients produce the metabolite that was found.

At the hearing, he will go before the board of ASA as well as the athletes' representative, the road running federation representative, a technical representative and (possibly) a Comrades representative. At the hearing, the doping control procedure will be questioned to ensure it was done correctly, the lab report will be explained and he will be allowed to give representation.

If it is found that it was an accidental dosing or that there are extenuating circumstances (i.e. the substance was not listed on the ingredients list on the product or was prescribed as critical medication by a doctor) then he will be let off with a warning. If it is found that it was due to negligence on his part then it could be a few months ban. If it is found that he knowingly took the substance for the purpose of enhancing his chances (very hard to do) it could result in a 3 year ban.

After the hearing, he has the right to take it up with the IAAF if he feels that the hearing was not impartial or disagrees with the findings
