The baby was born on Morne's own birthday.

"What an awesome present," he tweeted.

As he awaited the birth, the rugby star player thanked family, friends and supporters for the messages of goodwill for him and his wife Christelle, as they prepared for the life-changing moment: "At the hospital, waiting for our baby boy to join us in the real world! Thanks to everyone for the tweets, appreciate the support!! God bless!"

Team-mate Odwa Ndungane congratulated Steyn, saying: "Fluffy [nickname] awesome news bro, it's the best feeling ever holding your child for the first time, happy for you and wife!!!"
