FREE State Stars fullback Rudiger Gilbert has gone missing and the club suspects he might be training with a team in Gauteng.
Gilbert has not pitched for pre-season training, officials said. The 25-year-old has been a regular at Stars for the past two seasons and has another two years of his contract left. "We have tried to get hold of him for an explanation," said general manager Rantsi Mokoena. "We will take legal action if we find another club have tried to take him on."
This is not the first time Gilbert has played truant. He was late in returning to pre-season training in January after a short festive break and went missing for a week after a game last year against Golden Arrows.
