Maluleka returns to his roots
NEW SuperSport United signing George Maluleka says he feels he has a point to prove when he returns to the club after three seasons with Ajax Cape Town.
United exercised a clause in their original deal with Ajax that allows them to buy back the player and gives the 23-year-old a third spell at the club.
Maluleka originally left United's junior structures to play at Pretoria University, then came back to make his debut as a substitute in the 2007-2008 season before being sold as surplus to requirements by Gavin Hunt.
But after impressing in the Cape, and winning two Bafana Bafana caps, he is going back to where it all started again.
"I'm keen to prove I'm a much better player than I was when I left," he said as he prepared to join up with his old team.
Maluleka will have his final training session with Ajax today and will start at Matsatsantsa on Monday - depending on the final paperwork being concluded.
"I have had a talk with coach Gavin Hunt and he says he sees me as a key player for the coming season, although I also know that I have to work hard to get my place in the team. He says he believes I can bring something different to the style of the team."
Maluleka says leaving Ajax after three years - where he started more than 80 games - leaves him with mixed emotions but that it is the right move for his career development. His next ambition is to force a move overseas.
"In all the years at Ajax I did well for myself and for the team so it was a tough decision," he said.

Sundowns wanted him so bad. It seems like no professional player in his right mind will sign for Sundowns. Hey Sundowns, no one loves you...Report Abuse
