Killer has to heal that knee!
BAFANA Bafana marksman Katlego "Killer" Mphela will be monitored over the next week to decide whether he needs further surgery to his problem knee.
The Mamelodi Sundowns star underwent keyhole surgery on Monday after suffering pain in his knee for much of this year, which limited his appearances for Sundowns in the second half of the 2011-12 campaign.
Having played through the pain barrier for club and country, he is hoping that the repair work will leave him injury-free for the new season.
The keyhole surgery on his right knee cleaned out the fluid build-up on the joint and he will now be monitored by doctors over the next seven days to decide if he needs more extensive surgery. This would leave him on the sidelines for some time longer.
If not, it is likely that he will make the start of the new 2012-13 campaign for Sundowns, with any move abroad now highly unlikely, given that he would be unlikely to pass a medical until fully fit.
Mphela made just six league starts for Downs in the second half of last season because of the knee problem, netting just one goal.
However, he scored nine goals in the first 12 league games of the season.
