Bafana star accused of club brawl with deputy minister's son

SON HURT: Deputy Minister Ayanda Dlodlo whose son Thabang was assaulted.

Dlodlo's son Thabang Mnisi told Sowetan last night that Pienaar and his friends had beaten him up.

Mnisi, 22, claimed that Pienaar tried to kick him out of the club's VIP area and when he refused he assaulted him.

"I had just walked into the [VIP] area and Pienaar asked me what I was doing there. I told him that I was also on the VIP list but he didn't seem to like it," Mnisi said.

A reign of blows to Mnisi's head allegedly followed soon after which left him injured.

"The guy that was with Pienaar started punching me and I fell to the ground and that man continued to punch me until the bouncers came to my rescue," Mnisi said.

Asked if Pienaar took part in the assault, Mnisi said he had punched him in the stomach.

Mnisi said he sustained injuries to his face but that it could have been much worse had the bouncers not intervened.

"I don't know if those guys are only his friends or bodyguards, because the guy who was beating me up had a gun," he said.

Pienaar's agent Rob Moore told Sowetan that he was not aware of any fight and that he was in China.

Last night Mnisi was being treated by a doctor at the hospital in Morningside.

He said he would open a case of assault against Pienaar as soon as he had finished with his doctor.

Pienaar, who featured for Bafana in their two draws against lowly ranked Ethiopia and Botswana in the 2014 Fifa World Cup qualifiers, did not feature in the national team's 3-0 demolishing of Gabon in a friendly in Nelspruit on Friday.

He was among the five players who were rested by stand-in coach Steve Komphela.

The 30-year-old midfielder, who also played for Dutch giants Ajax Amsterdam and Borussia Dortmund in Germany, was reported to have returned to London to rejoin his English Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur after his load spell with Everton expired at the end of last season.

@Nantseka

I thought he was a polite person, he presents himself as a respectful person, or maybe its becoz he's loyal to Bafana & the country.

Thabang Mnisi and Ayanda dlodlo, why don't they share the same surname. My son is supposed to be my wife's son, isn't it. We are a society of such high morals that we name our children differently. Why bother with marriage ... What is the issue at hand here? Minister, Soccer Star or Surnames? Pass me that beer.
