AJAX Cape Town have verbally agreed an extension to the contract of Matthew Booth, which the player will sign on his return from holiday in Morocco.

The Urban Warriors decided in a board meeting this week that they would offer Booth, 35, a new one-year deal that includes the option of an extra season.

Booth told Sowetan on Tuesday that he was keen to remain with the Urban Warriors if they offer him a deal longer than one season, which would allow him to bring his family down from Johannesburg.

Ajax CEO George Comitis, who tried frantically to get through to Booth in Morocco yesterday morning, was able to reach the lanky defender late in the afternoon.

"The board is very positive about wanting Matthew to stay for next season, as is the coach (Maarten Stekelenburg)," Comitis said.

Booth will formally sign the contract when he returns from his holiday in north Africa.

Ajax are also looking to bolster their backline with the acquisition of Dominic Isaacs, who left the club for Kaizer Chiefs in 2008.

Isaacs has since been released by AmaKhosi and will join the Urban Warriors at the start of their pre-season training on June 27.
