Mthalane defends title against Nunez
MORUTI "Baby Face" Mthalane is set to defend his International Boxing Federation flyweight title against Ricardo "El Matematico" Nunez.
And there is a chance that this fight could be held in South Africa.
Mthalane's handlers are negotiating with 24-year-old Nunez's camp after the IBF ordered that the boxers' promoters start negotiations.
Nunez, from Panama, earned the right to challenge Mthalane after he stopped Carlos Tamara in the sixth round of an elimination bout in April.
"We have been ordered by the IBF to negotiate for a fight against Nunez. I can confirm that we are still negotiating with Nunez's camp," said Mthalane's Johannesburg-based trainer Nick Durandt.
Mthalane has already defended his crown three times - against Zolani Tete, Johnriel Casimero and Andrea Sarritzu - since winning the title after a contest against Julio Cesar Miranda in November 2009.
All three challengers failed to go the distance against the southpaw.
He stopped Tete and Casimero in the fifth round and Sarritzu in round seven.
The 29-year-old Mthalane has an impressive record of 28 wins (19 KOs) and two losses, while the Panamanian has won 24 fights (20 KOs) and lost two.
