Call up Benni and Lucky as well: Moshoeu

SOCCER icon John Moshoeu wants to see the Bafana Bafana also held open for other "senior citizens" Benni McCarthy and Lucky Lekgwathi.

This follows the return of free-scoring striker Siyabonga Nomvethe, a decision that got a big thumbs up from Moshoeu.

Moshoeu, himself a former Bafana star who only retired from PSL football at 42, said he was highly impressed by the massive contribution by the older players this season.

"Experience is priceless, no amount of money can buy it," said Moshoeu, the SAB Regional League ambassador.

"It hurts to see Bafana Bafana not doing well, but I'm happy we have Siyabonga Nomvethe back. We've had a problem with scoring goals for a long time, Siyabonga has been doing well in the PSL and it's a good idea to recall him."

Moshoeu would like to see coach Pitso Mosimane cast his net even wider: "Lucky Lekgwathi has also been doing well for Pirates, the same applies to Benni McCarthy.

"For me the so-called older players will do well for Bafana. We need to look at the person in terms of what he can offer the team."

On Sunday's 2014 World Cup opening qualifier against Ethiopia, Moshoeu said it was important for Bafana to get their campaign off to a good start with a convincing win.

Moshoeu, 46, plays for and coaches Alex United.
