ELATED: Chiefs winger Siphiwe Tshabalala

"I want to promise our supporters that we will make them proud next season"

KAIZER Chiefs winger Siphiwe Tshabalala walked away with a brand new Nissan Juke after scooping the club's player of the season award in Johannesburg at the weekend.

The Bafana Bafana vice-captain was also presented with a cheque of R90,000 after beating two other nominees, Lehlohonolo Majoro and Lucky Baloyi.

"This is great," said an elated Tshabalala.

"I want to thank everybody who contributed to my success at this club, though the only disappointing thing is that we did not win a single trophy this season.

"Chiefs are associated with winning trophies and I want to promise our supporters that we will make them proud next season. We want to start the Naturena Soccer League where all the titles will come to our village."

Tshabalala, who is in camp with Bafana Bafana in Rustenburg for the World Cup qualifiers against Ethiopia and Botswana at Royal Bafokeng Stadium on Sunday and June 9 in Gaborone, was also chosen the Chiefs' online player of the season. Reneilwe Letsholonyane and Baloyi were also nominated for this award.

Majoro and Baloyi did not go home empty-handed, though.

Majoro won the top goal-scorer award with 15 goals.

A radiologist by profession, Majoro also won the fair play award, beating Josta Dladla and George Lebese.

Baloyi deservedly won the most improved player of the year award. He was also chosen by his peers as players' player of the season.

Long-serving midfielder Tinashe Nengomasha received the chairman's award.

Bernard Parker's strike against Orlando Pirates at Soccer City on September 17 last year was chosen as the goal of the season.
