I think Moeneeb is right. He gets called up, but he never plays. This is exactly the same thing that happened to Benni when he was playing for Bafana. He would be called up, only to play for 5-10 minutes. Itumeleng Khune is a very good goalkeeper. He is not likely to be dethroned by Moeneeb. So, I think it is a wise move by DTC no 1 keeper.

The truth is that Moeneeb does not have a place at Bafana Bafana and I dont think there is any impact with his decision. The person who is actually demoralising players is the coach. Whether Khune, Mphela, Reneilwe and Teko performs or not they are always in the heart of the coach. Which creteria is he using to select the starting 11 is it experience, performance or names. And that was a career suicide for the national team poi, I can feel your frustration but that is not how you deal with issue, you need to fight for your position on the field not via your lawyer Mcfatty. At the helm of the managerial position is Pitso who calls all the shots and not ego-controlled players who think they can dictate to the coach, something that Josephs doesn't do at Pirates.
No one is guaranteed a spot at the national team and the coach and his technical team has the duty to carry out as to who is suitable for which position for a specific game. In Europe and the rest of the world, they use the same model whereby positions are given to loyal players until such time that they loose their form.

in all honesty i think BB players should be selected based on performance; form and a mix of experience to balance things out. But with PITSO it has been about experience and favouritism, MPHELA hasnt been playing for his team, YEYE just came back from injury (not that he is a bad player but please give a guy a chance to recover rather than ending his career) KHUMALO, SERERO etc. u cant bring in players who havent been regulars and expect to win games, yes others may be regulars but choke when they get to play for NATIONAL team but others do come to the party...MANYISA has been a consistant player for RATs but played out off position in the NATIONAL team which affect his performance and that doesnt mean he cant perform or is a bad player, we can benefit a lot from their combination rather than playing JALI and YEYE who normally play against each other...JUST a thought, PITSO should also do what is right for the NATION not agents and players PARKER was once called up even with his below par performance at the expenses of in form players.

Performance at National Level at times differ to that at club level, we have seen players performing well for their team but when it comes to BB its a different story, for e.g how many crucial goals have Mphela scored for Bafana, Slim Kat was given his chance, he is just been coward why dont he work hard for to be in the starting eleven.

Moeneeb Josesphs is an average goal keeper but he wants to bench one of Africa’s best keep (KHUNE).
FIRSTLY Josephs doesn’t deserve to be in the squad I was shocked when the coach selected him some time ago over
Wayne Sandilands,Emile Baron and some young keeper overseas I mean even Arthur Baartman can crack it as Bafana’s number despite the age. Josephs grow up and work harder Khune is one of the best face it. Bennie is influencing him now he has the balls suddenly. How many times have we used to Josephs and lost horribly in the squad he’s a mickey mouse keeper look at the last Pirates game what did he do he fumbled

He gets call ups, but he does not play. The question is; is it worth getting a call up, when u do not play? For how long must he persevere? For 8 more years, playing 2nd fiddle? He plays for Barcelona for crying out loud. Joseph you are a good goal keeper and so as Khune the fact that he is younger than you does not mean he must sit down for you. The major problem with Bafana Bafana is not a goal keep department its actually the striking force.
Please dont get big headed because of what you have won with Pirates think proffesional and get back on that field and do what you do best which is playing football. Live the politics to the administrations for its not your place.

This is not and should never been seen as a Pirate vs Chiefs supporters debate, because that way we will omit the facts and argue from the emotional premise and without emotional intelligence, such a debate can not be good at all. There are many decisions in the past that Pitso made that we did not agree with regardless of which team we supported. Pitso continues to defy logic and omits players regardless of their current form and select his favourite players inspite of their club form. This is not unique to south africa either, it happens world over. Coaches are human beings, humans have certain favorites and this has nothing necessarily to do with the reality.
Moneeb like all of us has a right to honor the call or not to honor it. Should we want to crticise him for excercising that right we need to put facts on the table and not emotions.
To Moneeb, if you believe that is the best decision for you, I support you 100%; should you change your mind when Pitso is sacked or even during his reign, i will still support you 100%. If any player is in your shoes i would do the same, All the best for your future endevours. Report Abuse

Bafana, shouldn't be about competing, but maybe about working together as an S.A team.

The whole country is consistently rediculed and shamed because of Pitso's favouritisms in selection. Thats no secret and I have long suggested a selection panel for our national team.

Morning AllI think Moeneeb is right. He gets called up, but he never plays. This is exactly the same thing that happened to Benni when he was playing for Bafana. He would be called up, only to play for 5-10 minutes. Itumeleng Khune is a very good goalkeeper. He is not likely to be dethroned by Moeneeb. So, I think it is a wise move by DTC no 1 keeper.

Josephs need to know that there are club players and there are national team players. At the moment he is a club player and Khune is national team player. The same with Shabba and Yeye. I think that he is pretty much aware that he will never be the no 1 keeper as long as Khune is there. This has nothing to do with the fact that Khune is from Chiefs. we all know that Khune is better than Moeneeb. U want Moeneeb to sit on the bench and accept that one, glorious day, he will play? Khune is 24, so Moeneeb will not play any time soon. BTW; both keepers are very good at their clubs. Bafana has to have 1 keeper only. Khune has cemented his place, and it will always be difficult for other keepers to come through.

I also agree with you there. How many times Josephs come back from injury and go straight to the team? Did Senzo quit? no. He is still waiting patiently and for Josephs he is doom. I am telling you my friend once one of these players (Josephs, Bennie and Klate) did'nt play regularly at Pirates there wil be troubles as it happened with Leal that is why Bennie is hell bent on making sure Palacious is retained because he is playing all of these 3. Whether Khune, Mphela, Reneilwe and Teko performs or not they are always in the heart of the coach. Which creteria is he using to select the starting 11 is it experience, performance or names. In Europe and the rest of the world, they use the same model whereby positions are given to loyal players until such time that they loose their form.

Many ppl blames PITSO for favouring KHUNE over MOENEED and i wonder how...i think KHUNE should step down for now and see what will happen cos clearly healthy competetion is not what other prefers!!! yes he has six medals in 2 seasons so is the BARCA keeper but he is not SPAINS no.1...yes MOENEEB has been there long b4 KHUNE but it's not about service but performance, i think he also shot himself on the foot during one of his interviews on RATs tv when he said he never had much luck when it came to NATIONAL duties and it's out there for everyone to see, we lost too many games with him than KHUNE and that does'nt at all mean he didnt improve or doesnt deserve a chance ahead of KHUNE!!! he only concluded that he will never get that place instead of nicely asking the coach to give him a chance ahead of his team mate which i think is not an offense...anyway you are indeed a great KEEPER and SPORTMAN, goodluck in your future endeavors, just wish PITSO could have given u a chance b4 it all got to this...as for BENNI i will not say a word he is just leaving up to his off the field expectations!!!

in all honesty i think BB players should be selected based on performance; form and a mix of experience to balance things out. But with PITSO it has been about experience and favouritism, MPHELA hasnt been playing for his team, YEYE just came back from injury (not that he is a bad player but please give a guy a chance to recover rather than ending his career) KHUMALO, SERERO etc. u cant bring in players who havent been regulars and expect to win games, yes others may be regulars but choke when they get to play for NATIONAL team but others do come to the party...MANYISA has been a consistant player for RATs but played out off position in the NATIONAL team which affect his performance and that doesnt mean he cant perform or is a bad player, we can benefit a lot from their combination rather than playing JALI and YEYE who normally play against each other...JUST a thought, PITSO should also do what is right for the NATION not agents and players PARKER was once called up even with his below par performance at the expenses of in form players.

Based on ure statement, I can deduce that u do not know what is good or bad for Bafana. U only know or can only see the good of ure club. I dont think that any of the DTC`s can doubt that Khune is Bafana`s no 1. At the end of the day, a player has to think about his future. Moeneeb is 30. He is the DTC no 1 keeper. He gets call ups, but he does not play. The question is; is it worth getting a call up, when u do not play? For how long must he persevere? For 8 more years, playing 2nd fiddle? Considering his age, and the fact that he is doing well at club level, I dont think so.

Other players are at the coach`s heart; Mphela especially. Pitso has sd so himself that he knows what Mphela can do from the time he was coaching SS. So, even when Mphela is not perfoming, he plays. So, what criteria is used?

@allThis is not and should never been seen as a Pirate vs Chiefs supporters debate, because that way we will omit the facts and argue from the emotional premise and without emotional intelligence, such a debate can not be good at all. There are many decisions in the past that Pitso made that we did not agree with regardless of which team we supported. Pitso continues to defy logic and omits players regardless of their current form and select his favourite players inspite of their club form. This is not unique to south africa either, it happens world over. Coaches are human beings, humans have certain favorites and this has nothing necessarily to do with the reality.
Moneeb like all of us has a right to honor the call or not to honor it. Should we want to crticise him for excercising that right we need to put facts on the table and not emotions.
To Moneeb, if you believe that is the best decision for you, I support you 100%; should you change your mind when Pitso is sacked or even during his reign, i will still support you 100%. If any player is in your shoes i would do the same, All the best for your future endevours.

an under-performing player closes doors on others who could do the job. Mphela is not the only striker, in as much as I know that he can be lethal in spaces.
there are matches where coach should have substituted him, but he didnt because he is his baby. There are 90 mins only to win a match, and if Mphela is ineffective in that one game, someone else must take his place.

What matters the most here, is the reason behind Slimkat's decision.If it is about making a statement against the inconsistency of the criteria used by Pitso for selections,then I stand by our Slimkat(Dtc.Psl)(Star.Africa).
We cant act like we are not aware that some players are guaranteed call-ups in Bafana while some very good players are always ignored.
The whole country is consistently rediculed and shamed because of Pitso's favouritisms in selection. Thats no secret and I have long suggested a selection panel for our national team.
We are not all blind to Pitso's acting as if he owns the team.
