Man United to feature in SA tourney

MANCHESTER United are coming to South Africa in July to play in a four-club tournament that will include Ghanaian club Asante Kotoko.

There was no confirmation of the visit from the Red Devils but it is understood that United representatives were in South Africa last week to discuss logistics.

"United are excited to come back to South Africa because they have a big following," said a source who is familiar with the planning but refused to be named.

United were in South Africa three seasons ago to play in the Vodacom Challenge, where they hammered Kaizer Chiefs 4-0 in the final in Pretoria.

AmaZulu will be United's first opponents at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on July 18. The match will coincide with the 94th birthday celebrations of Nelson Mandela. The final of the tournament is planned for Soccer City on July 21.

"I think a deal with the fourth club - most likely from South Africa - will be signed in the next few days," said the source.

Organisers of the tournament could not be reached for comment.

The tournament will be one of four major football events in South Africa in July. The second is the Vodacom Challenge. A third tournament will feature English Premier League club Newcastle United and DR Congo champions TP Mazembe.

In Free State, there will be a fourth tournament hosted by Bloemfontein Celtic. Three European clubs will take part in that one.
