Chiefs stutter to goal-less draw

May 19, 2012 | Sapa | 9 comments

With the draw, Chiefs finish fifth on the log for the season, while AmaZulu finish in seventh spot.

Kaizer Chiefs and AmaZulu FC played out to a goalless draw in their final Premiership match of the season at FNB Stadium on Saturday.

With the draw, Chiefs finish fifth on the log for the season, while AmaZulu finish in seventh spot.

It ends a frustrating season for the AmaKhosi, and even a power strike from Mandla Masango in the 84th minute could not win it for the home side, as the ball struck the crossbar.

Like the Soweto side’s league campaign the game came to a stuttering close.

Chiefs enjoyed the better chances in the first half, but with nothing to really trouble Tapuwa Kapini in the visitors’ goal.

In the third minute, Kagiso Senamela found space on the right hand side in the area, but he was too slow with his shot and the Chiefs’ defence closed him down as his shot was deflected out for a corner.

Ten minutes later, Chiefs put together their first probing attack.

Bernard Parker’s shot from the edge of the box forced a save from Kapini in the AmaZulu goal.

On the 19 minute mark, Chiefs built up a flowing move from a counter-attack orchestrated by Siphiwe Tshabalala, but the final shot by Jimmy Tau soared into the stands.

After a period of domination by the home side, AmaZulu launched a rare counter-attack in the 24th minute.   Bustling down the right, Ayanda Dlamini was wayward with his attempt from inside the area.

The best chance fell to the feet of Tshabalala in the 43rd minute, and his left-footed strike from long range required a good save from the keeper.

Six minutes after the break, Chiefs stretched the AmaZulu defence and the shot fell to Lehlohonolo Majoro, but his attempt was just wide.

In the 68th minute, Tshabalala wasted another good chance when his run into the box was unmarked, but his free-header went over the target.

Six minutes from the end, Mandla Masango hit the crossbar for Chiefs.

AGGGHHHHHH! (yawning)

Maybe their minds were on Moses Mabhida. They wanted to watch Champs win their double treble.

We are used to victory

Well, I don't like Pirates, but what they did to these polookas gave peace to my hearts. Bobby insulted us as fans and he gets what he deserves: 0 cups, 0 millions.
