SIBONISO Gaxa has no regrets about his two seasons in Belgium, but the Bafana Bafana right-back would rather earn "big" money at home in the Premier League.

Gaxa returned to South Africa this week to sign a three-year contract with Kaizer Chiefs, having left the country to play for Lierse after the 2010 World Cup.

A former league winner with SuperSport United in 2008, Gaxa said the Belgian Premier Division was not very different to the Absa Premiership, adding: "We now get big money here, so why not come back or stay."

Gaxa has often complained that being in Europe was lonely and affected his football, and admitted yesterday that the fact he would get to spend more time with his daughter was one of the main reasons for his return.

"I had to put myself first and consider my family. There were no issues with Lierse in those two seasons apart from the fact that I played under four different coaches in my first season," he said. "We had to draw our last game of this season to avoid relegation and in all my career in top-flight football I have never had to face such situations."

Gaxa also hit back at criticism that South African players were not tough enough to handle playing abroad.

"We might be lacking in physique, but we have good players. I'm glad I went to Europe and I learned a lot of things, there's life there. But we tend to undermine our league (PSL). We have a good league," said Gaxa.

"There are players from other African countries there who stick it out, but they have told me that if they if had known about the SA league before they moved abroad, they would have opted to stay in Africa and not suffer."

Gaxa said news that Stuart Baxter would be the Chiefs coach was not the deciding factor in his move to join the club.

"I heard that there were a couple of other choices as well and just imagine if I made my decision based on Stuart being here . it would have been a disaster. I respect him and he gave me my chance at Bafana level and it is a positive thing for me that he will be the coach," he said.
