Sono looks on the bright side

May 11, 2012 | Sbu Mjikeliso | 32 comments

JOMO Sono is not someone who gives up easily.

USED TO PLAY-OFFS: Jomo Sono

His team, Jomo Cosmos, have won only twice this season and are bottom of the log on the Absa Premiership table with 17 points. They are six points behind 15th-placed Santos and eight adrift of 14th-placed Black Leopards.

They still have to play three more games, two of them against those fellow cellar dwellers, and tomorrow's match against Maritzburg at Sinaba, where they had one of their two victories, beating Platinum Stars 2-1 on December 3 (the other being against Wits six weeks ago).

Even so, the chances of surviving the big drop must be slim. But that's not the way Sono sees it, especially after his team's goalless draw against AmaZulu in Durban on Wednesday night.

"Psychologically it was very important for us to pick up a point," Sono said of the game at Princess Magogo stadium.

"Santos and Leopards must not slip up. If they make one mistake, we'll catch up."

Santos are up against AmaZulu at Moses Mabhida tomorrow while Black Leopards meet Cosmos next Wednesday at Sinaba. "We'll give them a run for their money. We're used to these play-off situations and that will give us an advantage," said Sono, brimming with bravado.

Quote"We're used to these play-off situations and that will give us an advantage" unquote. The man is confident he will be relagated, the advantage he's talking about is the more game time he will have over other teams in the first division. THAT IS WHERE JACK OF ALL TRADES BELONGS.
