Rovers, Chippa fight for play-off spot
WITH University of Pretoria practically in the Absa Premiership, the race for the play-off spot continues between Blackburn Rovers and Chippa United in the National First Division.
Though Rovers no longer have a realistic chance of winning automatic promotion, the East London-based side still have an outside chance of gaining promotion to the PSL through the play-offs.
Placed second on the log, Rovers, who beat Dynamos 1-0 on Wednesday night, would need to win by at least 12 goals in their next two games and for the University side to lose their remaining two games, to gain automatic promotion.
Rovers visit third-placed Chippa United at Philippi Stadium on Sunday (3pm kickoff), looking to secure a place in the promotion play-offs, which would involve three teams this season.
Unlike last season, the team that finishes 15th in the PSL will engaged the runners-up and third-placed finishers in the NFD in the play-offs, with the winner taking the last spot in the Premiership.
Chippa are on 45 points, equal with FC AK.
